Olivia Tomlin recorded nine kills with an attack percentage of .467 Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough for the Chargers as #8 Dordt took down Briar Cliff in straight sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-20) at the Newman Flanagan Center.
With the win, Dordt remained undefeated in GPAC play at 13-0. The Defenders are 20-2 overall on the season and were led Wednesday by Ema Altena’s 13 kills and nine digs. Altena hit at a .429 clip. Jamie De Jager, last week’s GPAC setter of the week, assisted on 32 of Dordt’s 40 kills.
Victoria Gonzalez finished the night with eight kills for the Blue and Gold. The trio of Courtney Schafer, Noel Phillips and Elizabeth Kock each had four kills. As a team the Chargers tallied 33 kills to Dordt’s 40.
Brooklyn Tolliver was strong defensively for the Cliff, recording 14 digs. She also had four assists in the match. Delaney Meyer was the top distributor for BC with 15 assists while also recording 11 digs. Dordt’s Aubrey Drake led all players in digs with 17.
Dordt held the advantage in blocks by an 8-4 margin. Jessi De Jager assisted on six blocks for Dordt. Victoria Gonzalez was the top blocker for the Chargers, assisting on one and also recording one solo block.
Briar Cliff won the serving battle as each team had six service errors but the Cliff tallied three aces to Dordt’s two. The Chargers to issue ace serves were Danielle Coronado, Harlee Wagonerand Meyer.
The loss dropped the Blue and Gold to 11-11 overall and 5-8 in conference play. Briar Cliff travels to take on #12 Northwestern for a 7:30 match Friday in Orange City, Iowa.
