Centennial takes two from SRC

Centennial takes two from SRC

Shelby-Two games, two victories for the Centennial Broncos as they swept Shelby-Rising-City Tuesday.

The girls game was dominated by the Lady Broncos. At half-time it was 34-6 Centennial, 44-10 at end of third, and final 52-16.

Shelby-Rising City coach Turner Trofholz said before the game they lost most of their big scorers from last season.

The leading scorer for the Huskins coming into Tuesday night was Kamryn Pokorney, she was silenced by Centennial only scorning two points.

The leading scorer for SRC was Taylor Potter with three points.

The Lady Broncos were led by Sophomore Kate Hirschfeld who scored 12 points.

Junior Hunter Hartshorn dropped in 10 points, six of those coming from beyond the arc.

Centennial was 7 of 8 from the stripe and poured in three long balls.

The boys matchup saw more scoring as Centennial won 58-45.

The Broncos started the second quarter leading by seven but couldn’t find the hoop and nearly squandered away the lead being outscored by Shelby-Rising City 10-5 in that quarter, making it 25-23 Centennial at the half.

In the third quarter though, the Broncos found a groove again and didn’t look back from there, scoring 15 points in the quarter and leading 40-30.

Fourth quarter was more of the same as SRC couldn’t do much with the very well executed Bronco defense, and potent offense.

Centennial was led by Jackson Hirschfeld who knocked in 30 of the teams 58 points alone.

Cooper Gierhan was on fire from the outside sinking four three-pointers and scoring 14 points on the night.

Caleb Horne added 12.

Shelby-Rising City was led by Austin Coffin who had 19 points

Although teammate Jett Pinneo got off to a slow start, he picked it up late in the game and scored 17 points in the losing effort. Pinneo made four from downtown

Bailey Belt had 10 points.

Centennial kept themselves in the game with full court press, and in your face man-on-man defense, something they have done to opponents all season.

Centennial goes to 11-1 on the season and SRC falls to 7-3.

Both the Shelby-Rising City girls and boys play Friday at Hampton.

Centennial too plays Friday night, they travel to Columbus Lakeview.
