Creighton Softball releases 2019 Schedule

Creighton Softball releases 2019 Schedule

OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton softball head coach Brent Vigness announced the release of the Bluejays’ 2019 schedule on Monday afternoon.

After starting the season with 14 games away from home at three weekend tournaments during the month of February, Creighton is scheduled to host a total of 22 games, including a three-day invitational at the Creighton Sports Complex (March 15-17).

The Bluejays open the season Feb. 8-10 at the New Mexico State Invitational in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Creighton leads off the year against UTEP at 12 p.m. Central on Feb. 8. The White and Blue will play five games in New Mexico, including a pair against the host Aggies. New Mexico State claimed the 2018 WAC championship before falling twice during the Tempe Regional.

Creighton heads to Denton, Texas for four games Feb. 15-16 at the North Texas Invitational. The Bluejays will match-up against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Northwestern State and the host Mean Green.

The Bluejays travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee for their final road trip of the opening month. Creighton is set to play five games (Feb. 22-24) at the Frost Classic, including one each against former Missouri Valley Conference foes Evansville and Southern Illinois. The Bluejays end their stay at the tournament against defending MAC champion Ohio on Feb. 24.

Creighton’s first home weekend is scheduled for March 2-3 when the Bluejays host Lamar. Arkansas-Pine Bluff also heads to Omaha for three games March 8-9.

The Creighton Tournament is slated for March 15-17 at the Creighton Sports Complex. The Bluejays welcome UMKC and South Dakota State for the three-day event.

BIG EAST Conference play starts on March 23 when Vigness and his team head to the nation’s capital for a weekend series against Georgetown. The Bluejays will host St. John’s (April 6-9), Butler (April 18-19) and Seton Hall (May 5-6) during league action.

Creighton welcomes Nebraska to Omaha on April 9.

The last time Creighton played at least 20 home games was in 2008 when the team played 21 games at the Creighton Sports Complex and went 19-2 during such contests in Omaha. Last season the Bluejays played 19 home games (13-6).

The 2019 BIG EAST Softball Championship is scheduled for May 10-11 in Rosemont, Illinois. The top four teams in the final conference regular-season standings will play in the single-elimination postseason tournament, with the winner receiving the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals.

Vigness led the 2018 Bluejays to a 28-15 mark, including a 12-3 league record for a second-place finish. The team also captured runner-up acclaim at the 2018 BIG EAST Championship. Creighton returns 16 players from last season’s roster and welcomes seven newcomers for the upcoming campaign.
