Creighton Volleyball Climbs To Ninth in RPI; 13th in AVCA Poll

OMAHA, Neb. — Thirteen days prior to Selection Sunday, the Creighton Volleyball team saw its RPI surge five spots to ninth in today’s release of the computer rankings. The Bluejays also jumped a spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Top 25 poll to 13th after a fifth straight 2-0 weekend.

Creighton’s No. 9 mark in the RPI is the program’s best mark in the month of November in program history, one spot better than the No. 10 mark on Nov. 7, 2013. Creighton’s best mark in an official NCAA RPI came on Oct. 17, 2013, when the Bluejays were fifth. CU’s best RPI rank this season was on October 2nd, when it was eighth.

The Bluejays moved to 15-1 in BIG EAST play last weekend after wins at Xavier (3-0) and Butler (3-2). The Bluejays have won a season-best 11 straight contests to improve to 22-5 overall, clinching a sixth straight 20-win campaign.

Creighton is 54-15 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll. The Bluejays have now been ranked in 33 all-time polls, and are one of 16 clubs to be ranked in each of the last 19 editions. The Bluejays have been in every poll since Oct. 31, 2016.

The Bluejays, who have played the nation’s seventh-toughest schedule according to the NCAA, have faced seven teams that are ranked in this week’s poll (No. 6 Kentucky, No. 10 Washington, No. 14 USC, No. 15 Purdue, No. 16 Kansas, No. 21 Wichita State and No. 23 Iowa State).

Penn State remained in the top spot in the national rankings with all 64 first-place votes. Texas, Florida, Stanford and Nebraska round out the top five.

Creighton also inched up one spot to 12th in the VolleyMob.com poll, while falling a spot to 23rd in the PrepVolleyball.com poll.

Creighton will play a pair of matches on the road this weekend, starting with Friday’s 6 p.m. Central contest at Villanova.
