Duke girls fall short in consolation game

YORK – The York Duke girls basketball team lost another tough game Saturday, as they fell to Platteview, 44-39, in the consolation game of the 2018 York Holiday basketball Tournament. The game was reminiscent of Friday’s double overtime loss to Elkhorn, with the Dukes scratching and clawing, playing from behind, but this time they were unable to catch up. After falling behind by seven early, York managed to hang with Platteview, staying within 5 points most of the game, and tying the contest on several occasions, but never held a lead.

Platteview led 15-9 after one quarter, 23-21 at the half, and 34-32 after three quarters, and outscored York 10-7 in the 4th to take 3rd place in the girls bracket. York, now 5-5 on the season, was led in scoring by Maddie Portwine with 12 points, and Destiny Shepherd with 11.
