Iowa State’s Schaben Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State outside hitter Jess Schaben was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. The award is Schaben’s first of the season, her second Big 12 Off. POW of her career and her sixth career Big 12 weekly honor.

Schaben is the first Cyclone since Samara West last November to collect the Offensive Player of the Week award. She is also just the third Cyclone to be named Offensive Player of the Week multiple times in her career, joining three-time winner Victoria Henson and two-time honoree Erin Boeve.

The junior from Defiance, Iowa was the offensive catalyst for ISU’s 2-0 week last week. At Oklahoma on Wednesday, Schaben dominated with a season-high 18 kills in a sweep of the Sooners, including a season-best nine kills in the first set. At TCU on Saturday, Schaben led all players with 12 kills, making herself the 10th player in Iowa State history to record at least 1,000 kills.

For the week, Schaben ranked second in the Big 12 with her 5.00 kills per set, which she earned at a .296 hitting percentage. She also contributed 14 digs and five blocks across the two matches.

Schaben and the No. 22 Cyclones will close out the regular season Saturday at home against Texas Tech on Senior Day at 2 p.m. Following the match, fans are encouraged to stick around as ISU honors its four senior student-athletes.
