Lady Dusters Win In Overtime, Minutemen Move To 3-1

LEXINGTON- The Minutemaids and Minutemen played host to rival Holdrege on Thursday night and it was the Lady Dusters winning the girl’s game 47-40, and Lexington winning the boys contest 59-32.

In the girl’s game, Lexington possessed a 9-8 lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, they maintained that lead and even extended it as the Minutemaids led 20-17 at the intermission. In the third quarter, Holdrege had a big scoring output by outpacing the Minutemaids 15-11. The Lady Dusters entered the final quarter with a 32-31 lead. In the final stanza, Lexington outscored Holdrege 6-5 to force overtime tied at 37-37. In the extra period, Jirsie Klein scored seven of the 10 points put up in the extra period to close the game for the Lady Dusters.

Holdrege was led by 13 points from Klein. Lexington was paced by Sarah Treffer with 18 points. Holdrege is 1-1 and will face Hastings on Friday. Lexington falls to 1-3 and will battle York on Saturday.

In the boy’s game, Lexington eventually pulled away to beat Holdrege 59-32. It was a tight contest early as the game was tied at the end of the first quarter at 15.  In the second quarter, Lexington claimed the lead  31-23 at halftime. In the third quarter, Lexington outscored Holdrege 13-6 as the score read 44-29 entering the fourth quarter. And in the final quarter, Lexington finished the contest by outscoring Holdrege 15-3.

Lexington was led by 20 points from Nick Saiz. Matt Anderson led Holdrege with seven points.  Lexington moves to 3-1 and will face York on Saturday. Holdrege falls to 0-2 and will take on Hastings on Friday.
