Last season, the University of Nebraska at Kearney Women’s basketball team posted a record of 21-7 in the tough MIAA. Their season came to a close in the first round of the MIAA tournament with a 60-57 loss to Missouri Western. From that roster, just three members of the team remain as 10 new athletes will be joining the team.

The leading scorer from last year’s team is sophomore Kelsey Sanger. Sanger last year averaged seven points per game. She played in all 28 games and started in 18 of them. The Crofton, Nebraska native will look to improve off of last year’s season, which if she can shoot near her 50% clip last year, with more shots this year, she could have a big sophomore campaign.

Jaymie Bernbeck played in 27 games and started in 26 contests. The Senior averaged about four points per game and four rebounds. She will be looked upon to be effective in the post for the Lady Lopers.

Adreon Bell rounds out the other UNK athlete to return from last year’s team. Bell is a sophomore and last year she played in 23 games and averaged three points and one assist.

A lot of newcomers will be looked on to provide minutes and scoring for this team right away. UNK will start the season on Friday, November 9th against Minnesota-Crookston on the road.
