It was a fairly light weekend of action for area legion teams. Here’s a quick recap from the action on the diamond.
Saturday: Westco Zephyrs 13, Douglas WY (9 inn game)…Alexis Gurrola tossed a complete game for the win, allowing 8 hits and just two runs. He struck out two and also walked a pair in the victory. Westco pounded 17 hits in the offensive attack. Cooper Buckhammer finished 3-4 with a RBI while Brady Sindt had three hits, four RBI and scored twice. Trent Richter also drove in four runs. With the win the Zephyrs moved back over .500 at 16-15 on the season.
- The Z’s had two games that were scheduled at Greeley, Colorado, cancelled on Sunday.
Saturday: Gering Platte Valley Companies 3, Ogallala 1…Coming off their big win over Westco on Thursday night the Gering seniors made it four straight wins by knocking off Ogallala on the road. After recording the save by pitching the final inning of the win over the Zephyrs it was Brent Barge right back on the bump in this one; he went the distance for a seven inning complete game win. Barge kept his pitch count to just 84 on the day. At the plate the lone multi-hit game was recorded by Dalton Scott while Dylan Radzymski and Anthony Walker registered RBI’s. Gering now 17-13.
Saturday: Gering B&C Steel 12, Ogallala JR’s 2…The great summer for the the Gering juniors continued as they rolled past Ogallala. Gering scored their 12 runs on just 8 hits. Riley Schanaman and Ryley Hoke combined on the mound to allow just two total hits. Aedrick Conn and Brady Radzymski combined for 4 RBI’s at the dish. With the win B&C Steel improved to 24-8.
Sunday: Westco Express 9, Lexington 1…In game one of the doubleheader Ricardo Rodriguez tossed a six inning complete game with 5 strikeouts for the win while at the plate the Express outhit Lexington 7-3. Creighton Dike had two hits and Ty Corr drove in a pair of runs.
Sunday: Westco Express 11, Lexington 7…In a game that featured 11 errors combined it was the Express improving to 21-15 with the doubleheader sweep. Jerald Ybarra finished 3-4 with four RBI’s at the plate and Ricardo Rodriguez was 2-3 with two RBI’s. Nate Blackos the winning pitcher.
Wednesday: Bridgeport at Westco…It’ll be a juniors/seniors doubleheader at Cleveland Field featuring fan appreciation night! Free admission all night long with the first 300 in attendance getting a free hot dog, bag of chips, baked beans, and cookie. Juniors game at 5 p.m. with the seniors game at 7:30

Wednesday: Martin SD at Gering PVC…Gering plays a doubleheader at home and we’ll have both games on KNEB AM 960/100.3 FM/kneb.com starting at 4:45 with first pitch at 5 p.m.
Friday-Tuesday: Gering B&C Steel will be playing in the Class B Area Tournament in Ogallala.
