Lopers Improve On Second Day

Kearney, Neb – The Nebraska-Kearney women’s golf team improved by 13 strokes on the second day of the NCAA Super Regional #3 Tuesday in St. Charles, Mo. The 12-team, 54-hole tournament is being hosted by Lindenwood at the par 72 Missouri Bluffs Golf Course. The top three teams and the top three individuals not from one of the advancing teams moves onto the NCAA Championships later this month. After firing a 327 on Monday, UNK came in with a 314 today (641 overall). Kearney recorded eight birdies, four more than in round one, as well as 48 pars. The Lopers, the 12th seed coming in and currently in 12th place, moved up to 10th late in the round but then slipped back two spots. Just in front is Minnesota State-Mankato (640) and Oklahoma Baptist (638). Six teams are currently in the hunt to reach the NCAA’s.

The host Lions and No. 25 Augustana are tied for first (598) with No. 34 SW Oklahoma seven shots back and three others close behind Individually, Doniphan sophomore Brandi Lemek pared 14 holes today, including her first six, to be tied for 38th place (13-over 157; 80-77). She has the fourth most pars (26) in the tourney and is 2-over on par 5 holes. Playing her home course has helped LWU’s Josefina Haupt gain the overall lead with a 4-under 141 (70-71). Three others are at or below par. Also for UNK, Utah senior Samantha Crawford came back to shoot a team-best 75 today. Her round included three birdies, two on the front nine, and 12 pars. She is tied for 43rd (160; 85-75). Next, Ogallala junior Maaika Mestl is tied for 50th (162; 81-81), McCook senior Breanna Redl is tied for 53rd (163; 82-81) and California junior Danielle Dickerson is tied for 59th (165; 84-81). Mestl had three birdies today with Redl managing 10 pars and Dickerson paring four of her final five holes. The final round begins Wednesday at 9 a.m.
