Mavericks Cap Off Season Sweep Over South Dakota State

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team completed the season sweep over South Dakota State Friday evening inside Sapp Fieldhouse.

The Mavericks defeated the Jackrabbits 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 to improve to 15-10 overall and 10-3 in the league, while South Dakota State falls to 5-21 overall and 2-11 in Summit League action.

Leaders for Omaha
Sadie Limback tallied a team-best 13 kills on .524 hitting, while Sydney Case recorded 39 assists. Omaha also had two other players record nine kills and a .517 hitting percentage in both Isabella Sade and Anna Blaschko.


  • The Mavericks hit .385 as a team, which is the third-highest hitting percentage for a match this season.
  • Omaha improves to 43-20 all-time over South Dakota State.
  • The Mavericks improve to 4-6 in three-set matches.
  • Omaha finished a perfect 2-0 for matches inside Sapp Fieldhouse.

Inside Set 1
Both teams exchanged points in the first set until the Jackrabbits took a 13-11 lead. A Limback kill sparked a 4-0 run to put Omaha up two. South Dakota State led 16-15 a few points later, but the Mavericks pulled together five straight points that were sparked by kills from Limback, Sade and Blaschko. From there, Omaha never trailed for the remainder of the set and cruised to a 25-21 win.

Inside Set 2
Up 1-0 in the match, Omaha jumped out to a 4-1 advantage, but the Jackrabbits later tied the match at 8-8. A pair of kills by Limback and Blascko proved to be enough energy for the Mavericks, as they led 11-8 and never trailed for the remainder of the set. Up by as many as seven on two different occasions, a kill by Sade was the final exclamation point as Omaha took a 2-0 lead in the match off a 25-18 second-set victory.

Inside Set 3
Omaha sparked a 5-0 run early in the set and took an 8-5 lead. South Dakota State, however, rallied together four straight kills and led 13-10 to force an Omaha timeout. Out of the break, kills by Claire Leonard and Limback, along with an SDSU error, tied the score at 13-all. Once again, Omaha fell into a three-point hole (17-14) late in the set but clawed its way out. The Mavericks were able to take a 20-19 lead off a kill by Abby Bergsten and force the Jackrabbits to use a timeout. Omaha continued the push and rallied off three straight points and led 23-20. The final two points that sealed it for Omaha were Leonard’s seventh kill and a South Dakota State attack error.

Looking Ahead to Senior Day
On Sunday, Nov. 4, the Mavericks will honor three seniors: Mackenzie Horkey, Abby Bergsten and Gessica Gdowski. It also marks the final home match of the season against South Dakota. Both teams are currently tied for second place with identical conference records, and the first serve is set for 1 p.m.
