Morningside Football stays No. 4

Morningside is ranked fourth in the nation in the NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 Poll released on October 2.

The Mustangs, also ranked fourth in last week’s poll, improved their record to 5-0 with a 48-20 victory against No. 15 Northwestern College last Saturday in Orange City, Iowa, in a showdown between undefeated teams. The victory improved Morningside’s record to 2-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and left the Mustangs as the only undefeated team in the GPAC standings through the first three weeks of the league’s schedule.

Morningside has been ranked in the NAIA Top 25 for 130 consecutive polls for the nation’s longest active streak of Top 25 rankings. The Mustangs also have the nation’s longest active streak with 13 consecutive NAIA Championship Series appearances. Morningside has a 139-27 record for a .837 winning percentage since the start of the 2004 season.

Morningside is one of five teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in the NAIA Top 25. Aside from Morningside, Doane University is 12th, Northwestern is 19th, Dakota Wesleyan University is 22nd and Hastings College is 24th.

The Mustangs will host No. 22 Dakota Wesleyan for Homecoming 2017 this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
