Morningside’s nationally ranked volleyball team extended its winning streak to six when the Mustangs swept Dakota Wesleyan 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 on Wednesday in Sioux City.
The Mustangs, ranked 24th nationally in the NAIA, improved their record to 13-7 and climbed to 5-2 in the GPAC for fifth place in the league standings.
Jayde Bergmann and Krista Zenk each slammed 10 kills to pace a balanced Morningside attack. Emma Gerber was right behind with eight kills, followed by Brittni Olson with six, Jenn Buyert with five and Brittany Fleming with four.
Bergmann posted her team-high 10th double figure kill total of the season and added 10 digs for her team-high third double-double of the campaign.
Callie Alberico ignited the Mustangs’ attack with a match-high 34 assists to go along with 10 digs.
The Mustangs’ Nikki Oberfoell, this week’s GPAC Defensive Player of the Week, led all performers with 26 digs for her 14th consecutive double figure effort. Morgan Gourley added 12 digs for her fourth straight double figure performance.
Olson had one solo block and three block assists and Gerber had three block assists to lead the Mustangs’ blocking effort.
Oberfoell and Ashley Boer had ace serves.
Morningside will travel to Omaha, Neb., on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match against College of Saint Mary.
