Omaha Falters Against NDSU

OMAHA, Neb. — The Omaha volleyball team dropped its final match of the regular season Sunday afternoon, falling 3-1 (25-22, 13-25, 15-25, 27-29) to North Dakota State at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks finish the regular season at 10-17 (7-7 Summit League), while the Bison improve to 18-8 (9-5).

The match marked Senior Day for senior duo Sydney O’Shaughnessy and Amanda Conlin, who were honored with pre-match festivities.

Leaders for Omaha
Junior Abby Bergsten led the Mavericks with 11 kills for the afternoon. Freshman Anna Blaschko had nine more with two blocks, and classmate Bella Sade added eight kills with a team-high five blocks. Junior Mackenzie Horkey had eight more kills alongside 16 digs.

O’Shaughnessy finished with 39 assists, six digs, a career-high-tying seven kills and two aces.

Defensively, freshman Claire Mountjoy tallied a season-high 33 digs with seven assists and two aces. Sophomore Meagen Roth also had a double-figure effort with 13 scoops.

Leaders for North Dakota State
North Dakota State was led by 18 kills from Erika Gelzinyte and another 12 from McKenzie Burke. Brianna Rasmusson had a double-double on 38 assists and 14 digs along with six blocks, seven kills and two aces.

Team Stats
NDSU outhit Omaha .241 to .137 and outblocked the Mavericks 10-7.

Inside Set 1
Horkey led the charge with five kills and nine digs in the opening set, and Blaschko and Bergsten each added four more. Back-and-forth action included six ties, the last of which came on a Conlin kill at 20-20. The Mavericks then got back-to-back kills from Horkey to go up by two, and another by Blaschko pushed it to 23-21 to prompt a Bison timeout. Bergsten had the final kill of the set, which gave Omaha the win at 25-22.

Inside Set 2
NDSU hit .406 in the second set behind seven kills from Gelzinyte. The Mavericks never led as the Bison evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-13 win.

Inside Set 3
NDSU never trailed in set three and reached the 20-point threshold first with a short 3-0 run. The Bison won the set 25-15 to go up 2-1.

Inside Set 4
Sade and Bergsten mustered five kills apiece in the fourth set, hitting .500 and .417, respectively, while Sade also collected four blocks. The set was a battle, stalling 17 times, and included nine lead changes. NDSU reached set point first on a Rasmusson kill, but a Bergsten/Sade block followed by a Sade kill put the Mavericks in the driver’s seat at 25-24. Omaha and NDSU tied three more times up to 27-27 before the Bison finished it off with a Burke kill and an ace from Abbi Klos to seal the match.
