FORT WORTH, Texas — The Omaha men’s basketball team visited its second Big 12 opponent of the season Monday night, falling 99-66 to TCU at Schollmaier Arena. The Mavericks are now 0-5 on the season, while the Horned Frogs improve to 4-0.
Leaders for Omaha
Junior Zach Jackson registered his fifth straight double-figure scoring performance with team highs of 17 points and five rebounds. Sophomore KJ Robinson joined him in double figures with 11 points and career highs of four rebounds and eight assists.
Leaders for TCU
Five players scored in double figures for TCU: Vlad Brodziansky (19), Desmond Bane (14), Kenrich Williams (11), JD Miller (10) and Ahmed Hamdy (10).
TCU shot .529 (36-of-68) to Omaha’s .509 (27-of-53) and made 11 threes in the game. The Horned Frogs also hit at an .800 (16-of-20) clip at the free throw line and had a 33-28 rebounding advantage. TCU forced 26 Maverick turnovers while committing just 12 themselves, scoring 36 points off miscues.
Inside the First Half
Jackson shot 5-of-8 in the first 20 minutes and was the first player to reach double figures with 10 points. The Frogs opened with a 10-2 run and went up by as many as 24 in the half. TCU shot .545 (18-of-33) as a team and had nine different players score en route to a 50-28 lead by the break.
Inside the Second Half
Brodziansky poured in 12 points for the Horned Frogs in the second half, while sophomore JT Gibson had eight to lead the Mavericks. Omaha shot .556 (15-of-27) in the half, but the Horned Frogs used a 22-4 run to propel them to their largest advantage of 42 late in the game.
Omaha caps the Emerald Coast Classic with two games in Niceville, Fla., facing Tennessee Tech on Friday, Nov. 24. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m.
