Omaha releases 2018 Baseball Schedule

Omaha releases 2018 Baseball Schedule

OMAHA, Neb. — The Omaha baseball program has released its 2018 season schedule, head coach Evan Porter announced Wednesday.

The Mavericks’ regular-season slate includes 54 games. Omaha will play 15 of its 19 home games at Seymour Smith Park, while four more with Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State and Creighton will be played at Werner Park.

Omaha opens the 2018 season with a four-game weekend series against Northwestern in Glendale, Ariz., Feb. 16-18. The road swing continues with a three-game series at Wichita State (Feb. 23-25) and four games against Ohio (March 2-4), the latter of which is set in Emerson, Ga. The Mavericks have a single midweek game at Minnesota (March 6), then head west to BYU for three games (March 8-10). A single game at Kansas (March 14) caps the opening away stretch.

The Mavericks make their home debut with back-to-back weekend series at Seymour Smith Park, welcoming Fort Wayne (March 16-18) and defending Summit League champion Oral Roberts (March 23-25). After a trip to K-State (March 27), Omaha plays four more home games with a series vs. South Dakota State (March 30 – April 1) at Seymour Smith and in-state foe Nebraska (April 3) at Werner Park.

A weekend series at North Dakota State (April 6-8) comes before a second Werner Park game with Kansas (April 10). Omaha then kicks off an eight-game road swing: at Western Illinois (April 13-15), at Creighton (April 17), at Nebraska (April 18) and at Fort Wayne (April 20-21).

The Mavericks return home for K-State at Werner Park (April 25) and North Dakota State (April 27-29). Following a trip to South Dakota State (May 4-6), Omaha hosts a rematch with Creighton at Werner Park (May 9). It then heads to Oral Roberts (May 11-13) and faces Creighton a third time (May 15) before capping the regular season at home with Western Illinois (May 18-20).

The Summit League Championship, which takes its field from the top four teams in the regular-season standings, is set for May 23-26 in Tulsa, Okla.

“We look forward to the challenges our 2018 schedule will bring,” Porter said. “The opponents we have on the slate will test us in new ways, which will prepare us for a tough Summit League schedule. Our fans also have the opportunity to enjoy some outstanding games at Werner Park, as well as visits to Nebraska and Creighton. We’re excited to begin our offseason preparations for the spring.”

Over the regular season, Omaha will play in 11 states against schools from six other Division I conferences. The schedule has three opponents from the Big Ten, two from the Big 12 and one each from the American Athletic Conference, MAC, West Coast Conference and BIG EAST.

Porter enters his second year at the helm of the Omaha program. UNO returns 13 letterwinners, including 2017 first-team All-Summit honoree Grant Suponchick.
