Omaha Softball loses to South Dakota State

OMAHA, Neb. – Janae Cameron hit a three-run home run in Omaha’s 13-3 loss to South Dakota State on Saturday at Claussen-Westgate Field.

Cameron went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI to lead the Mavericks.  Lexi BurkhardtEmma Dargy and Emily Klosterman added base hits.

Lyndsey Crist finished 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI to lead South Dakota State.  Yanney Ponce added a 2-for-5 effort with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI.  Megan Rushing added a pair of doubles and three RBI.

Omaha’s Sydney Hampton (1-12) started and suffered the loss.  Hampton allowed five runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks in 2.1 innings.  Ryanne Millington tossed the final 4.2 innings and allowed eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits and a pair of walks.  Taylor Compton (6-3) picked up the win in relief for the Jackrabbits.  Compton allowed one hit and one walk over 4.0 innings of work.  SDSU starter Olivia Douglas allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in 3.0 innings of work.

Crist hit a three-run home run giving South Dakota State a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  The Jackrabbits added three more runs in the third on Ponce’s two-run homer and an RBI double by Rushing.

Omaha cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third.  Dargy and Burkhardt hit back-to-back one-out singles.  After the second out of the inning, Cameron sent a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence to draw the Mavericks within 6-3.

Crist hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth before the Jackrabbits scored six times in the top of the seventh for the 13-3 victory.

Omaha continues Summit League play next weekend with a three-game series against North Dakota.  The Mavericks and Fighting Hawks will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30 starting at noon before the series finale on Sunday, March 31 at 11 a.m.  All three games will be played at Westside Field at Westbrook and links to live stats are available on
