Omaha Volleyball falls to North Dakota State in Summit League Tournament

DENVER — The fifth-seeded Omaha volleyball team dropped a four-set match in the Summit League Championship quarterfinals on Friday afternoon, falling (25-21, 29-31, 15-25, 19-25) to fourth-seeded North Dakota State at Hamilton Gymnasium.

The match marked the final game of the careers for seniors Sydney O’Shaughnessy and Amanda Conlin.

Leaders for Omaha
Sydney O’Shaughnessy led the Mavericks with her 70th career double-double, tallying team highs of 20 digs and 36 assists. She also had six kills while hitting at a .417 clip. Gessica Gdowski also posted a double-double for Omaha, managing a team-high 12 kills in addition to her 11 digs.

Offensively, Bella Sade and Mackenzie Horkey smashed nine kills apiece, while Anna Blaschko added six more. Sade led the team and with four service aces, the only ones of the match for Omaha.

Leaders for North Dakota State
Brianna Rasmusson led the Bison with a triple-double, posting 10 kills, 36 assists and 12 digs. She also posted a .526 attack percentage. Libero Mikaela Purnell had a game-high 28 digs, while McKenzie Burke led the team with 13 kills.

Team Stats
NDSU outhit Omaha .198 to .123 and outblocked the Mavericks 11-10.

Inside Set 1
Tied 5-5, Horkey and Meagen Roth smashed back-to-back kills as Omaha rattled off four straight points to take a 9-5 lead. Then the Bison made their own run, winning six straight points to take an 11-9 lead. Omaha tied the game at 15 when Sade got a kill. The rest of the set was all Omaha, peaking when Sade had an ace to give Omaha a 22-18 lead. O’Shaughnessy finished the set off with a kill, making the score 25-21.

Inside Set 2
Omaha jumped out to an early 7-2 lead sparking a North Dakota State timeout. Claire Mountjoy managed a kill on the dive as Omaha stretched the lead to 14-8. Omaha was up 19-11 when NDSU sparked a comeback. They tied the score at 22 with a big kill from Mackenzie Burke. The teams traded points from 24 on, but an Omaha attack error gave North Dakota State the set 31-29.

Inside Set 3
Chloe Dousette made her presence known in the third set, as she had two early kills to cut the North Dakota State lead to 5-3. Two attack errors on Omaha made the score 18-9, and Omaha called a timeout. Blaschko smacked a block to cut the score to 20-14, but the Bison won the set 25-15.

Inside Set 4
North Dakota State grabbed a 4-1 lead early in the set, but Gdowski stopped the run with a kill to make the score 4-2. The Bison rattled off six straight points-, but Blaschko’s kill stopped the run. Kills by Rasmusson and Burke both grabbed kills before Omaha called a timeout at 23-17. Omaha managed two more points, but lost the set 25-19 on a Bison kill that ended the match.

Omaha finishes its season with a record of 10-18 (7-7 Summit League).
