YORK – York College women’s soccer needed a solid team performance to get back to their winning ways, and that’s what they got in their 4-0 win Saturday afternoon against KCAC foe Saint Mary.
Madison Kinney (SR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) led things off for the Panthers when she hung around up top after a corner kick. With the ball being kicked across the right side of the goal she made a couple moves toward the corner and then lobbed a shot on goal that sailed over the Spires’ goalkeeper for the game-winning goal in the 15th minute of play.
Eleven minutes later Breanna Bembenek (SO/New Lenox, Ill) got an insurance goal with her team leading fifth goal of the season. Bembenek received the ball about 25 yards out from the goal and dribbled through three defenders before placing her shot toward the near post.
York held onto the 2-0 lead going into the break. There was no let down in the second half as Jazmin Pineda (FR/San Diego, CA) received a pass back across the middle of the penalty area where she connected on the shot and was able to place it back post against the momentum of the defense.
In the 54th minute Justine Medina (JR/Fontana, Calif) finished out the scoring for York as she scored a free kick from 35 yards out that sailed over the goalkeeper for goal number four.
York outshot the Spires 11-7 and also attacked with six corner kicks. The Panthers were able to get 23 players into the game and rest some legs as they prepare for their road trip to Bethany College on Tuesday evening. The game is slated for 5:00 p.m. in Lindsborg, Kansas.
York improves to 7-3 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
