Hastings-Adams Central squeaked out a three point victory Saturday over the undefeated Fillmore Central Panthers, 56-53.
A game that was a very even match throughout, also saw a lot of fouling, and three pointers.
Fillmore Central sophomore Jackie Schelkopf lit up for 17 points to lead the Panthers. She was 3-4 from the free throw line and made three from beyond the arc.
Eric Schmidt added 15 points in the losing effort.
For Adams Central Senior Morgan Samuleson had 14 points. Teammate Hannah Krabel added 12 to in the winning effort.
Adams Central (5-1) knew it would be a tough battle against a 6-0 Fillmore Girls team who has really been playing well.
Fillmore Central did play the night before, but that didn’t seem to slow them down on the court playing a solid defense, and sinking the three’s when they needed them.
However, Adams Central did lead three quarters of the game, but by a slim margin.
At the end of the first quarter, it was 13 to 11 Adams Central. End of second 31-25.
The third quarter saw Fillmore Central jump ahead 43-41.
In the fourth quarter, two players fouled out Sydney Shestak for Adams Central, and Halle Theis for Fillmore Central.
Fillmore Central held their own and played a tough defense but came up just short on offense losing the battle to Adams Central.
It was the Panthers first loss of the season they move on to play a tough Hastings St. Cecillia squad Thrusday.
Adams Central will play host to York on Tuesday.
Adams Central was dominate from the get-go. The Patriots showed why they were 4-1 coming into Saturdays match up with Filmore Central.
The 0-5 Panthers struggles continued, as they were owned by Adams Central on both sides of the ball.
The first quarter set the tone for the entire game as Adams Central led 29-2 at the end of one.
Adams Central won the game 76-22, in a lopsided affair.
Senior Thomas Hunt led the way with 15 points, with two from downtown.
