Pender Seniors Come From Behind for Walk-Off Win Over Wilber at State

ALBION – The Pender Senior Legion baseball team came from behind to beat Wilber 7-6 in the Class C state tournament in Albion on Sunday, July 29, in a game heard on 107.9 The Bull.

The game was tied 1-1 after the second inning, before Wilber took a 3-1 lead in the third.

Wilber extended their lead to 6-2 in the fifth, and led 6-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

Layne Heese had a two RBI single that scored Aaron Ras and Hunter Ferguson to make it 6-5. Then Will Gatzmeyer singled up the middle and brought home Brady Oliver and Heese to win the game in walk-off style.

Heese and Gatzmeye each had a single and two RBIs, for Pender. Aaron Ras had a double, single and an RBI, Lucas Vogt had two singles and an RBI and Jacon Zuhlke had a pair of base hits.

Eric Schopke was the winning pitcher in relief.

Pender advances to play David City at 8:00 Monday night. The game will be broadcast on the Bull.
