Pender Seniors Earn Trip to Finals with Second Win Over Wilber

ALBION – The Pender Senior Legion baseball team played Wilber in the semifinals of the Class C tournament in Albion on Wednesday, August 1, heard on 107.9 The Bull.

The game was a rematch between the two teams, in which Pender trailed 6-3 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Wilber on Saturday.

This time around it was Pender who had the hot bats early, leading 5-1 after the fourth.

Pender added two more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to lead 9-3 heading into the seventh.

Wilber tried for a seventh inning comeback of their own, but their rally was stopped at four runs, and Pender would hang on to win 9-7.

Brady Oliver had a pair of hits and three RBIs, Lucas Vogt had two singles and an RBI, Aaron Ras had a pair of base hits, Hunter Ferguson had a double with two RBIs and Layne Heese had an RBI double.

Heese, Vogt and Ras combined pitching efforts in the win.

Pender went on to face David City for the championship later that night.
