Scottsbluff, Gering basketball teams hoping to bounce back

The Scottsbluff and Gering high school basketball teams went a combined 0-4 on Thursday night.

All four teams are in action again tonight looking to rebound and find the win column.

Last night

(G) Mitchell 42, Gering 40…Lady Bulldogs with a game effort that came up just short as they drop to 2-2 on the season. Mitchell stayed unbeaten at 4-0. Jenna Balthazor and Paige Lopez each scored 11 points for Gering while Mitchell got 22 points from Keyana Wilfred.

(G) Campbell County 71, Scottsbluff 57…Making their first trip to the REMAX Professionals Tournament in Gillette the Lady Bearcats were up on the host school 28-27 at halftime. Foul trouble was a key in the second half as the Camels came back for the win. Yara Garcia led Scottsbluff with 21 points while Aubrey Krentz finished with 18.

(B) Thunder Basin 66, Scottsbluff 60…The Bearcats dropped to 2-2 and suffered their second straight loss in their opener in Gillette on Thursday night. This game was not a thing of beauty. Conner McCracken fouled out. Jack Darnell fouled out. Jasiya DeOllos was saddled with foul trouble from the start as was Chance Parker. Scottsbluff committed 24 turnovers, missed 7 free throws and shot just 19% from three point range and still had a shot to win this game in the final 90 seconds. Scottsbluff got big efforts off the bench from Harold Baez (12 pts), Dawson Mohr (8 pts), and Quentin Scott (7 pts). McCracken led the team with 17 points on the night.

(B) Mitchell 79, Gering 76…The Bulldogs dropped their third straight game as Mitchell erased a double digit fourth quarter deficit to earn the win at home. Keaton Reichert and Jon Pieper combined to score 44 points and Pieper dominated on the glass. Xaiver Horst scored a game high 32 points for Gering in the loss.

Tonight

Alliance at Gering…This girls and boys doubleheader can be seen on KNEB.tv, ALLO 15, and Mobius 1500 and heard on KNEB AM 960, 100.3 FM, and kneb.com starting at approximately 5:15 with the girls game scheduled to tip at 5:30. The boys game will follow.

-On the girls side Gering already owns a 68-41 win over Alliance. That came last weekend on day two of the WC Tournament.

-The Alliance boys blew out Gering in the semifinals of the WC Tournament last week 62-35.

Scottsbluff boys vs. Campbell County…Coverage tonight on 101.7 The Trail and kneb.com will start at approximately 7:15 with tip-off at 7:30.

Scottsbluff girls vs. Thunder Basin…5:45 start (no radio coverage as for the second straight night the Scottsbluff girls and boys are in separate gyms in back to back time slots…we WILL HAVE  a doubleheader tomorrow with the boys followed by girls on 101.7 The Trail, kneb.com starting at 2:15).
