Wayne State’s Beller collects NSIC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors

Tarrin Beller of Wayne State College was named the Northern Sun Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota following her performance in two NSIC matches last week.

Beller, a 6-0 junior middle hitter from Humphrey (Humphrey HS), averaged 2.10 kills and 2.00 blocks per set in matches last week vs. Sioux Falls and #7 Southwest Minnesota State. She tied a single game school record, held by WSC and NSIC Hall of Famer Emily Schroeder Jones three different times, with 13 blocks to go with nine kills in a 3-2 road win at Sioux Falls. Beller added 12 kills and seven blocks in Saturday’s 3-2 home setback to #7 SMSU.

For the season, Beller leads the NSIC averaging 1.36 blocks per set and tops the Wildcats in kills per set at 2.61.

Wayne State College, ranked 18th in this week’s AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll with an 8-2 record, visits Augustana Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. followed by home matches this weekend vs. #3 Concordia-St. Paul Friday at 6 p.m. and Minnesota State Saturday at 1 p.m.
