PENDER – Jordan Wegner scored 40 points and Wisner-Pilger defeated Omaha Nation 69-49 in the opening game of the girls C2-5 Subdistrict tournament in Pender on Monday night, Feb. 11, heard on 107.9 the Bull.
The Chiefs got out to an early 11-5 lead, before the Gators game back to take a 16-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Wisner-Pilger built a 28-17 advantage in the second, but Omaha Nation went on a 7-0 run to cut it to 28-24. The Gators scored three unanswered to end the quarter and went into halftime with a 31-24 lead.
The Gators outscored the Chiefs 18-8 and pulled away in the second half. They added another 20 points in the fourth quarter despite of couple of scoring runs from Omaha Nation. In the end, the final favored Wisner-Pilger 69-49.
Jordan Wegner had a career night for the Gators, totaling 40 points. She scored 14 in the first half, while adding 13 in the third quarter and 13 in the fourth, tallying 26 second half points. She also finished 8-11 from the free throw line.
Deondra Blackbird led Omaha Nation with 20 points and Karleigh Miller added 16. The Chiefs end their season at 3-17.
Wisner-Pilger improves to 7-16 on the season and will meet #1 Oakland-Craig in the Ce-5 Subdistrict semifinals on Tuesday night at 6:00. The other semifinal match up features #2 GACC vs #3 BRLD at 7:30. Both games will be broadcast on 107.9 The Bull.
