The West Point-Beemer Girls Golf Team won the C-2 District at Indian Trails Golf Course in Beemer on Monday. Cadets Head Coach Keith Eriksen says his team had to earn it. “This was a different type of tournament for us. We hadn’t really been down or beaten so far this year. And today we were tested by a couple of darn good teams in Columbus Scotus and Omaha Brownell Talbot. And we actually did not have the lead after the front 9. And some of our girls struggled right out of the gate. But we overcame adversity and ended up getting the job done so we’re very proud of their efforts for keeping it together and keeping their composure and finishing out 18 holes and getting a team victory.”
The Cadets finished 1st with a team score of 431. Oakland-Craig was 4th with a score of 456.
Individually for the Cadets, Brook Diekemper took 2nd place with a score of 90. Maddie Erb of West Point-Beemer was 10th with a score of 110.
West Point-Beemer qualified as a team for state in North Platte. Eriksen says his team is ready for the opportunity. “We are very happy to make that long drive. We will do that any day. We went out there as a team in early August and got to see the course, take a few notes on it. It’s flat…something that we’re not used to, but the girls are definitely looking forward to. So we’ll go out there and we’ll do our best and see what we can do.”
State Golf will be held on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
