OMAHA – York College outlasted the College of St. Mary Flames 74-67 on Saturday afternoon in a nonconference matchup. The Panthers were able to pick up the win in a back-and-forth game thanks in part to a strong third quarter. A game that saw eight lead changes, and 10 ties, York used a 20-14 third quarter to pull away from the Flames.
After trailing by two after the first period the Panthers outscored the Flames by nine over the final three quarters. Ciara Williams (SR/San Diego, Calif) had a team high 17 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Amaia Diez(FR/Pamplona, Spain) added 14 points along with other starter Melody Thomsen(JR/Westminster, Calif) with 13. Nakia Hackel (JR/Arlington, Texas) led the Panther bench as she scored 12 points.
York used strong defensive pressure all game as they forced the Flames to shoot 33% from the floor. York shot 43% from the floor for the game and held a 47-42 rebounding advantage.
York travels to Winfield, Kansas on Monday to play against Southwestern College in a conference matchup. The game is slated for a 5:00 pm start.
