York women fall flat against Bethel

North Newton, KAN – Bethel scored the first 15 points of the game Wednesday night and never looked back as they downed York College 69-50. The Panthers were outscored 22-7 in the first quarter and couldn’t make up the 15 point deficit in the final three frames.

York was able to gain three points back in the second frame, but that was the only quarter the Panthers outscored the home team. Ciara Williams (JR/San Diego, CA) led the team with 12 points, the only York player to score in double figures. Kendall Fike (SO/Ada, OK) added nine points while Kellie Fredendall (FR/Jefferson City, MO) added eight.

York shot just 32% from the field and 40% from the charity stripe. The Panthers were out rebounded 46-25 and committed 21 turnovers in the loss.

Bethel was led by Abby Schmidt, who scored a game high 21 points.

The Panthers fall to 4-11 on the season. They are 1-8 in conference action. The team’s next game will be at home on January 6, with a 2:00 p.m. tip off.
