Orange City, Iowa – Amber Jimenez (FR/Gilbert, Ariz) found the back of the net in the 57th minute of play and that was all of the offense the Panthers would need Saturday night. The Red Raiders of Northwestern put plenty of pressure on the York’s defense but were not able create solid threats inside the attacking third.

York College was outshot 9-2 in the first half, but with halftime adjustments, was able to come out with a 5-3 advantage in the second half. York’s shots were much more dangerous as they had six shots on frame, to just three by Northwestern.

A foul at midfield set up the goal scoring opportunity for the Panthers. Justine Medina (SO/Fontana, Calif) took the free kick and launched it toward the goal. A defender kicked it away and that is where Jimenez chased after it. She collected the ball about 35 yards out, turned toward the goal, juked one defender and then launched a strike, from the top corner of the penalty area to the back of the goal into side netting.

Nadia Rodriguez (SR/Denver Colo) and Breanna Bembenek (FR/New Lenox, Ill) led the Panthers with two shots each. Cassandra Martinez (SO/Madera, Calif) picked up her second shut out and win of the season the net for York.

The 1-0 win was the first ever over Northwestern College and the first win against an NAIA opponent in almost four years (10/12/13 against Presentation).

York improves to 2-2-1 on the season and will have their season home opener Tuesday afternoon at the Cornerstone Sports Complex, hosting Central Christian.
