GRAND ISLAND – The York girls basketball team saw their season come to an end in the B6 Subdistrict Final, falling to host Northwest, 43-27.

Early in the game, York kept pace with the Vikings, but a nightmare second quarter would be the demise for the Dukes. Only trailing by three at the end of the first quarter, York would only score two points in the second period while Northwest would pull away for good, scoring 14 points. Whitney Jensen outscored the Dukes by herself in the second quarter with nine points, all coming in the paint.

Free throws and turnovers once again became an issue for York as they converted 5-12 free throw opportunities and turned the ball over 13 times. However, York would wipe away a 20 point deficit down to 10 on the heels of Natalia Dick who scored nine points in the second half comeback that fell short.

Northwest’s Whitney Brown led all scorers with 17 points and three treys. Jensen finished with 11 overall. Megan Cooper contributed eight points behind two three pointers. Dick led York with 10 points. Halee Pohl and Masa Scheierman each scored four points.

York ends the year at 10-13 overall, their first losing season since 2011-12 while Northwest improves to 17-5 and will play in a district final on Saturday.
