Governor Pete Ricketts was on hand Thursday in Fremont for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Morningside Crossing  development just off Highway 275 and Morningside Road.

The 34 acre site will include 17 acres for housing, consisting of 300 one and two bedroom apartment units over three phases.  The first phase includes 108 apartments which could be ready for leasing by winter of next year.

Other phases will include 10 acres of commercial lots as well as a C-store with a possible coffee shop or restaurant.

The project is the first recipient of  the Greater Fremont Development Council’s Dodge County Investment Fund.  The fund had matching local contributions totaling  $1.03-million as well as a $850-thousand dollar  grant from the state of Nebraska and a $250-thousand grant from the Nebraska Investment Finance Authority.
