House in Torrington fire Sunday morning expected to be total loss

Torrington Fire officials say a home involved in an early Sunday morning fire is potentially a total loss, but fortunately the occupants were not at home when it broke out.

Volunteer Fire Chief Lance Petsch says the department was called to the 2900 block of West C Street around 4:50 a.m. to find flames had already breached the roof of the house.

Petsch tells KNEB News 16 firefighters with two engines and a support unit battled the blaze in the single-story home, completing their work including clean-up and hot-spot monitoring in about four hours.

He says while no one was home at the time of the fire, two dogs and two cats perished.  Petsch says while it might be possible to gut the walls and rebuilt, the damage was substantial.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
