(AUDIO) West Point City Council and Cuming County Ag Society negotiate property at Special Meeting

The West Point City Council held a Special Meeting at the Nielsen Center Wednesday night for negotiations on property owned by the Cuming County Ag Society in regard to the levee system and the Army Corps of Engineers constructing a berm on the property. City Administrator Tom Goulette explains what the Corps has done.

City Attorney Carrie Gaines laid out the details of the offer the City made to the Fair Board.

Fair Board Member Pat Schlickbernd expressed concern about relocating the Horse Arena.

Fair Board Member Eddie Linnenbrink says the Ag Society would also have to relocate the Demolition Derby Track and Buildings.

Goulette says the City is only doing this because they have to not because they want to.

Council Member Tom Swenson adds this is something that simply has to happen.

Swenson seconded the motion for the unanimous approval for the making of the offer after fellow Council Member Rusty Smith made it.

The Ag Society will possibly hold a special meeting next week to make a decision on this one way or another ahead of their regularly scheduled meeting on February 9th.
