On 12/07/20 the York County Sheriff’s Office, McCool Junction Fire Department, York Fire Department, Nebraska State Patrol, and the Nebraska Department of Roads were dispatched to a one vehicle injury accident on Highway 81 near the intersection of Road 5.  Upon arrival, it was determined that a tractor-trailer combination vehicle struck a bridge in the area, lost control, overturned, and immediately caught fire.  The trailer and the tractor’s frame separated from the cab and came to rest near the bottom of the bridge.

The cab of the tractor came to rest on its side near the middle of the southbound lanes.  The driver of the vehicle was identified as James E. Trussel of Ness City, Kansas.  Trussel was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the accident.  Trussel was transported to the York General Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.  The injuries sustained are believed to be non-life threatening.  Trussel was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
