(Miller/KNEB/RRN)

Gering City Council and the public will get their first look at a draft comprehensive Plan update for the community tonight.

Ayers Associates will represent the document during the city council meeting that starts at 6 p.m. at the Gering City Hall.

The public is expected to have about 30 days to comment on the plan through an online comment portal before City officials bring the document back to the council for final approval.

City Engineer Annie Folck has said the document will provide more of a guiding vision for the future of city development than comp plans of the past.

A revision to zoning ordinances to align with the new plan would follow quickly.

The council tonight is also expected to approve agreements with the Panhandle Area Development District regarding finalization of the Community Development Block Grant for the downtown revitalization project, as well as a blight study for the northeast part of the community.
