The Gering Fire Deparment will be hosting a live fire exercise at the Cedar Canyon WMA on September 14th and 15th, in conjunction with the Nebraska Forest Service, Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, Nebraska Fire Marshal Office, US Forest Service, National Parks, Nebraska National Guard and other resources.
An information meeting will be held this evening for landowners and homeowners within the Wildcat Hills.
Gering Fire Chief Nathan Flowers tells KNEB News tonight’s roundtable discussion provides an opportunity to discuss concerns and information and to give a briefing on the exercise.
Flowers says the exercise on September 14th and 15th is to benefit local fire departments with managing a wildfire within the Wildcat Hills.
Similar to last year’s exercise, he says roughly 30 different departments and several federal and state resources will be on hand to mitigate the live fire over the course of two days.
Tonight’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center Community Room.
