Juvenile Incident Occurs At York Interchange, Apprehended In Hamilton County

YORK-  On January 29th, 2020 at 1:22 P.M., the York Police Department responded to a report that a male who was in custody assaulted a transportation driver and then stole the vehicle. The incident occurred at a business in York at the 3400 block of South Lincoln Avenue, near Interstate 80. The vehicle was contracted to transport two detained juvenile males, one 16 and the other 17 to Kearney, Nebraska.

When the vehicle was stopped at the York interchange, one of the detained males freed themselves and assaulted the driver, then obtaining the keys to the vehicle, stole the vehicle and headed west. The York Police Department used the tracking device that was on the vehicle and eventually the two males were apprehended on Highway 34 by Hamilton County Sheriffs deputies. The juveniles were then taken into custody by the York County Sheriffs Department and transported to the Kearney Youth Rehabilitation Center.

Per the York Police Department, charges of escape, robbery, kidnapping, theft over $5,000, unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle, terroristic threats, and third-degree assault are being recommended to the York County Attorney for the prosecution of the 16-year-old male.
