More Adult Education Classes scheduled at West Point and Norfolk Campuses

WEST POINT – A new class utilizing Cricut machines will be offered soon at Northeast Community College in West Point.

Cricut: T-Shirt (HOEC 5135/20S & CRN #70112) meets Tuesday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Education Center, 200 W. Washington St., Room 102.

In this interactive class, Instructor Laci Fitch will teach participants how to use a Cricut machine. Participants will learn how to use DesignSpace while also creating a design for a shirt. They will be able to create one for themselves or as a gift.

Fitch will provide a heat press so participants can leave the class with a finished shirt. They need to bring a shirt with them. For those who have a Cricut machine, they are asked to bring it and a laptop to the class. All other supplies will be provided and are included in the cost of the class.

Cost of the class is $30.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a basic life support class and a renewal opportunity for healthcare providers in March.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Renewal (HLTH 5305/20S & CRN #70161) will be held Wednesday, March 11, from 6-10 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101.

This course is designed to refresh the knowledge of a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Participants are asked to bring their certification card with them the night of the class.

Cost of the class, with Matt Montgomery the instructor, is $40.

BLS for Health Care Provide Course (HLTH 5300/20S & CRN #70162) will be held Saturday, March 14, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 104.

This course is designed to provide a cross section of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of the course, with Ethan Larson the instructor, is $60.

WEST POINT – The Center for Enterprise at Northeast Community College will offer two continuing education courses for insurance professionals at the College’s extended campus in West Point on the same day in March.

Insurance: Cyber Decision Making #36586-NE; #1000679-IA (INSU 5195/20S & CRN #70114) will be held Thursday, March 12, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Ave., Room 219 in West Point.

First party. Third Party. All parties should be reviewing their cyber exposure in today’s business environment. This class will discuss the latest on underwriting, evaluating risk, identifying coverages and discussing best practice for a business.

Insurance: So You Want to be an Insurance Professional #36324-NE; #100329-IA (INSU 5210/20S & CRN #70113 will be held on Thursday, Marc 12, from 1-4 p.m., in the same location.

This class will cover risk management in today’s changing environment. Discussion topics will include the “do’s” and “don’ts” that an insurance professional faces today and steps a team can take to successfully navigate agency policy and procedures.

Laurie VanderWal is the instructor for both courses. Cost for each is $45.

NORFOLK, NE – If you are curious about the night sky, the Moon, planets and stars, Instructor Gary Fugman will lead students in an exploration of the physical universe as we know it today in a Northeast Community College class on the Norfolk campus.

Introduction to Adventures in Astronomy (HORC 5100/19F & CRN #60214) will be held Tuesday, August 27, from 6-9 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center. Cost of the class is 30.

Fugman will lead discussion on Earth’s place in the Solar System, the Moon, planets and asteroids, the Sun, other stars and the types of telescopes that may be used to study them. Participants will also learn how stars cluster together and related nebula form the Milky Way galaxy.

Weather permitting, Fungman will take participants outside near the close of class and use star charts to get familiar with the constellations and planets of September.

QuickBooks 2018 – Level I (ACCT 5100/19F & CRN #60215) will meet two consecutive Wednesdays, August 28 and September 4, from 6-9 p.m., in Room 126 in the Maclay building.

This introductory course covers the basics of setting up a company, creating customers, receiving payments and making deposits into bank accounts. Students will work with and create vendors and paying bills. They will also create and edit a chart of accounts for a company, run reports and reconcile bank accounts.

QuickBooks 2018 – Level II (ACCT 5300/19F & CRN #60216) will be held two consecutive Wednesdays, September 18 and 25, from 6-9 p.m., in the same location.

This course covers creating inventory, dealing with items and adjusting inventory counts on a continual basis. Students will learn about sales tax and sales tax groups, paying sales tax, running payroll and paying payroll liabilities. They will also create capital assets, utilize the loan manager and create an amortization schedule. Dealing with bad debt and creating journal entries will also be covered.

Cost of each class, with K. Osborne the instructor, is $60.
