Lincoln, Neb. — A Nebraska prison inmate died Saturday at the Nebraska State Peniteniary. 26 year old Philip Garcia started his sentence in February of 2018. Garcia was serving a 26-46 year sentence for theft by unlawful taking, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and assault on a peace officer. All of the charges originated out of Scotts Bluff County. The cause of death has not yet been determined. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
