The city of Gering was hit with multiple widespread power outages Friday night, leaving about half the community without power as the latest winter storm moved into the area.
Initial reports of outages came in shortly after 9 p.m.
Gering Electric Utilities Superintendent Doug Parker tells Rural Radio News three substations were knocked offline, apparently due to a problem with ice buildup on a city-owned high voltage transmission line that carries power from the Western Area Power Administration.
Saturday morning, officials said they were able to restore power to nearly all of the city by 3 a.m., leaving small pockets in various neighborhoods still without electricity. Crews are working those problem locations to restore power as soon as possible.
