During a special meeting Friday morning, the Scottsbluff City Council Friday morning approved an application to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development for a $750,000 Community Development Block Grant for owner occupied housing rehabilitation.
Bryan Venable, Business Resources and Social Enterprise Manager with Panhandle Area Development District told the council during a public hearing that if approved, the money would benefit low to moderate income households, which is defined as being at or below 80 percent of the median income, as described by HUD.
Scottsbluff City Manager Nathan Johnson told KNEB News the deadline for the application is Monday, which is the reason for the special meeting and public hearing Friday morning. He says they should have some indication on where they stand in the application process by December.
Johnson said they are anticipating the first quarter of 2020 to have the funds available to start move forward with some of the applications. He says they have received 35 pre-applications.
Johnson says it will be interesting to see how many projects are approved and what the nature of the projects are, considering $750,000 will only go so far.
