Scottsbluff Schools on Lockout as Authorities Seek Attempted Robbery Suspect

Scottsbluff Police and other law enforcement have spent much of the morning seeking a suspect in a reported attempted robbery in a vehicle at the Walgreens on Avenue B around 9 a.m.

On the scene, KNEB’s Dave Strang reported officers were searching the immediate area, with patrol cruisers canvassing nearby streets and neighborhoods.

Police Chief Kevin Spencer confirmed to KNEB News that a courier was approached by the suspect in the back of the truck at Walgreens when the attempted robbery occurred. The suspect then reportedly fled the scene on foot.

Spencer said the suspect was a black male around 6′ tall wearing cargo pants and maybe a dark colored jacket or vest.

Officers searched the back of the courier truck, and Spencer said they did find a BB gun that did not belong there, but it is unknown at this time if it was the weapon brandished by the suspect.

Due to the police activity, Scottsbluff and Gering Public Schools, along with WNCC, are currently in a Lockout, wiht no one permitted in or out of facilities until the Lockout is lifted.

SBPS spokesperson Melissa Price says Scottsbluff High School campus is closed for the lunch period, and additional food is being brought in to meet the situation. SBPS Security is coordinating Bear Cub Preschool dismissal. Classes will continue as scheduled inside until further notice.
