Teen Struck By Hit and Run Driver Near Scottsbluff High School

A 70-year-old rural Scottsbluff woman has been cited after striking a 16-year-old Scottsbluff High School student this morning.

Sgt. Philip Eckerberg says the girl was using the crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle that was eastbound on 27th Street.  The student was transported by Valley Ambulance to Regional West to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the driver, now identified as Beverly McKenzie, stopped for a couple of minutes, did not identify herself, and left before police arrived.

Sgt. Eckerberg says McKenzie later returned to the scene of the crash and identified herself. She was subsequently cited on charges including: Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, Failure to Yield the Right of Way to a Pedestrian, and Expired License Plates.
