Two Fatalities Occur From Vehicle And Semi Collision Near Osceola

OSCEOLA- Two women died after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed into a semitrailer on Highway 81 Wednesday near Osceola. Deputies determined the car, a 2005 Buick LaCrosse, heading west on U.S. Highway 81 shortly after 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, crossed the center line near the intersection with Valley Street. The Buick collided with an eastbound 2001 Volvo semi.

The two women, Beverly S. Cox, 71, of Osceola, and Joyce J. Umshler, 81, of Shelby, Nebraska in the Buick were pronounced dead at the Annie Jeffery Memorial Health Center, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the semi Jose M. Jimenez, 51, of Channelview, Texas was treated and then released.

The Polk County Sheriff’s office said that Cox and Jimenz had their seatbelts on, but Umshler did not. The investigation is ongoing.
