OMAHA, Neb. (AP) _ Union Pacific Corp. (UNP) on Thursday reported third-quarter profit of $1.36 billion.
On a per-share basis, the Omaha, Nebraska-based company said it had profit of $2.01. The results fell short of Wall Street expectations.
The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.03 per share.
The railroad posted revenue of $4.92 billion in the period, which also did not meet Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $4.98 billion.
Union Pacific shares have climbed 10% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poors 500 index has risen slightly more than 6%. The stock has increased 19% in the last 12 months.
