Western Nebraska Regional Airport to seek new restaurant vendor

Western Nebraska Regional Airport to seek new restaurant vendor

The Scottsbluff airport will soon be seeking a new vendor to operate the restaurant at the facility.

Western Nebraska Regional Airport Director Raul Aguallo tells KNEB News that Tammy Relka, owner of the Flight Deck, submitted a letter to the board Sept. 5 exercising her option to terminate her contract in 60 days.

Nov. 5 would be the final day for restaurant operations, however, Aguallo tells us a reply letter has been sent giving Relka the option to vacate the space before that date without penalty, and wishing her the best of luck with her new restaurant in Terrytown.

Aguallo says he will start advertising for a new vendor to take over food services at the facility, and has already heard from one person interested in the space.

Through the Flight Deck’s Facebook page, Relka intimated the airport operation would close in 30 days. In her post, she wrote “We will be moving the Sunday buffet brunch to our new location in Terrytown… Starting October 5th we will be open at the Sizzlin’ Sirloin on Sundays with the buffet. Until then please stop out and say good bye to the wonderful crew working at The Flight Deck.”

With flight schedules at the Scottsbluff facility, Aguallo says he understands it can be difficult to attract air travelers, so a new vendor would want to be able to draw in potential diners for lunch and/or dinner from the hundreds of people working nearby or living around the facility.

The WNRA Board meets Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. to finalize next year’s fiscal budget, and the restaurant closure is expected to be an additional topic of discussion.
