Agnew named Big East Player of the Week

New York, N.Y. — Creighton senior Jaylyn Agnew snagged her fifth BIG EAST Player of the Week nod after scoring a career-high 38 points in Creighton’s 77-68 win at Providence on Saturday.

Agnew was 14-of-21 from the field and 7-of-11 from deep on Saturday, matching the BIG EAST single-game high for three-pointers in a game this season. She added four assists and two rebounds as the Bluejays improved to 7-5 on the year.

The 38-point total matches the highest output by a player in BIG EAST play since Louisville’s Angel McCoughtry dropped 43 against the Friars on Jan. 31, 2009. Since 2009, only six other players have reached the 38-point threshold, with DePaul’s Brittany Hrynko being the most recent prior to Agnew, doing so on Jan. 4, 2015. Two other Bluejays have delivered 38-points in a game since Creighton joined the BIG EAST. Both performances came in the 2013-14 season as McKenzie Fujan did so in Creighton’s 86-78 win over DePaul on Jan. 4, 2014 and Marissa Janning scored 38 in the Bluejays’ 75-61 win over Georgetown on Feb. 5, 2014.

Agnew and the Bluejays begin a tough home weekend against St. John’s on Friday at 6:00 pm in Creighton’s annual Pink Game to support Breast Cancer awareness. On Sunday Creighton takes on Seton Hall at 1:00 pm.
