Briar Cliff Softball beats Williams Woods twice

Briar Cliff softball picked up two wins at William Woods Wednesday in Fulton, Missouri.  An RBI single by Alexis Westercamp to score Josie Chronic was the 1-0 difference for the Chargers in game one. Rachele Heaton and Kennedy Andersen recorded three hits each in game two and Samantha MacDonald had two RBIs to help the Cliff to the 8-3 win.

I am really proud of how the girls came out and played today,” said head coach Erin Bly. “We really looked unified today and approached the day well.”

In game one, Chronic reached base on a single in the third inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Callie Billings to set up Westercamp’s game-winning RBI.

Mailee Jensen went all seven innings for the Chargers, giving up four hits and striking out five batters in the shutout.

Chronic totaled three hits for the Cliff, while Westercamp, Kylee LukesBrooke Masi and Jensen had one each.

In game two, William Woods put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first innings, but BC scored eight straight before giving up one more in the seventh. The Chargers had three runs in the fifth.

Heaton got on base in the fifth with a double to left and was scored by Chronic. A double by MacDonald scored Aubrey Chichurka and Chronic to give BC the 5-1 lead after five complete frames.

Lauren Kouri (two), Chronic, Westercamp. Lukes, Heaton, Chichurka and Kach all crossed home plate for the Chargers.

Grace Delay was the Cliff’s winning pitcher. She threw five innings, giving up six hits and one run while striking out one.
