Briar Cliff women’s volleyball’s struggles continued Friday night as the team fell 3-0 to College of Saint Mary in Omaha. All three sets were close games but the Chargers were not able to take one from the Flames, who are receiving votes in the national polls.
The Cliff led by as many as five points in set one before allowing the Flames to come back and lead at 18-17. BC managed to take the lead again at 22-20, but a 5-1 run by CSM gave the home team the win in the first game.
BC gave up an 11-3 run in the middle of set two to give Saint Mary a 19-10 lead, but the Chargers battled back to trail by just one at the 22-21 mark, but the Flames held off the Cliff to go up 2-0 in the match. The teams went neck-and-neck in set three before a 5-1 run by CSM to end the contest.
Analyse Stapleton, Victoria Gonzalez and Aubury Coleman each had eight kills for the Chargers. Gonzalez also had eight digs. Morgan Youngs stepped in at libero for the Cliff and had 12 digs in the contest and two assists. Delaney Meyer dished out the most helpers with 16.
Makenna Freeman had 20 kills for Saint Mary and Regi Zakrzewski had 14 digs.
BC will return home to play Doane at the Newman Flanagan Center on Wednesday night.
