WEST POINT – The West Point-Beemer Boys and Girls Basketball Teams both lost to Arlington in Thursday night’s season openers in West Point in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.
The Cadet Girls lost 43-37 while the boys fell 49-46.
In the girls game, West Point-Beemer led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter, and got out to a 20-10 lead about midway through the second.
Arlington closed the second quarter on a 10-2 scoring run, and the Cadets held a 22-20 advantage at halftime.
West Point-Beemer scored just five points in the third quarter and the Eagles led 30-27 after three.
The Cadets hit a couple of key three pointers in the fourth quarter, but Arlington made free throws down the stretch, scoring seven of their 13 fourth quarter points from the line, and the Eagles were able to claim the win, 43-37.
With the win, Arlington beat West Point-Beemer in the season opener for the first time since 2013.
Sidney Swanson led the Cadets with 21 points. Jadyn Spoon had 16 for Arlington.
In the boys game, West Point-Beemer made a trio of three pointers in the first quarter, but Arlington led 12-9 after the first frame.
The Caets were held to just four points in the second quarter, and Arlington led 22-13 at halftime.
The Eagles started to pull away in the second half, leading 36-24 after three quarters.
West Point-Beemer got hot in the fourth quarter, and pulled within six points in the final two minutes. Despite erupting for 24 points in the fourth, Arlington was able to make free throws, and hang on for the 49-46 win.
Keegan Doggett had 11 pints for the Cadets, while Drake Repschlaeger added 10. Aiden Foreman had 13 points for Arlington.
Both West Point-Beemer teams are back in action on Saturday, taking on Omaha Roncalli on the road.
